Metaverse

Topic of Interest

Metaverse refers to “online spaces” that allow people to interact in a more immersive way than a traditional website. A virtual reality where people use an avatar to represent themselves to walk around, interact with other people’s avatars, build, game, trade, attend concerts or buy digital assets.

30 years ago, author Neal Stephenson coined the term “metaverse” in his 1992 science-fiction novel “Snow Crash,” which envisions a virtual reality-based successor to the internet. In the novel, people use digital avatars of themselves to explore the online world, often as a way of escaping a dystopian reality.

Now, companies like Meta (Facebook), Microsoft, Roblox, and Epic Games are planning to build their own metaverses.
